Local SEO Harrow: A Step-by-Step Guide for Restaurants (2026)

Local SEO Harrow: How to Rank Your Business on Google

Every evening, people across Harrow pick up their phones and search for somewhere to eat. “Restaurants near me.” “Afghan food Harrow.” “Brunch Harrow on the Hill.” Google shows a map with three restaurants and a list underneath. Most people choose from what they see first. If your restaurant isn’t there, those diners go somewhere else, and you never know they were looking.

That is what local SEO fixes. This guide explains how local SEO works for restaurants, cafés and takeaways in Harrow, and walks through the steps that actually move your position on Google Search and Google Maps. No jargon, and nothing you can’t start on this week.

What Local SEO Means for a Harrow Restaurant

Local SEO is the work of making your restaurant show up when people nearby search for food. For a Harrow restaurant, that means appearing in three places:

  • The local pack: the map and three listings at the top of Google for searches like “restaurants in Harrow”.
  • Google Maps: where many diners search directly, especially when they’re already out.
  • Normal search results: your website ranking for searches like “Persian restaurant Harrow” or “halal takeaway Wealdstone”.

Local searches for food carry clear intent. Someone searching “pizza delivery Harrow” at 8pm isn’t researching. They’re hungry and about to order. That’s why local SEO is usually the most cost-effective marketing a restaurant can do.

How Google Decides Which Harrow Restaurants to Show

Google says local results are based mainly on three things (Google’s own explanation):

  • Relevance: how well your listing matches what the person searched for. A listing with the right categories, a full menu and a clear description matches more searches.
  • Distance: how far you are from the searcher or the area they named. You can’t change your address, but you can make sure Google knows exactly where you are.
  • Prominence: how well known and trusted you are. Reviews, ratings, mentions on other websites and your own website all feed into this.

Every step below improves one or more of these three.

Step 1: Get Your Google Business Profile Right

Your Google Business Profile is the single most important part of local SEO for a restaurant. It decides whether you appear in the map results, and it’s often the first thing a diner sees. Check these:

  • Primary category: be specific. “Afghan restaurant” or “Sri Lankan restaurant” matches more of the right searches than plain “Restaurant”. Add secondary categories such as “Takeaway” or “Brunch restaurant” if they are true.
  • Opening hours: keep them exact, including bank holidays and Ramadan or festival hours. Wrong hours lose trust fast.
  • Menu: add your menu items with prices. Dishes on your profile help you appear for dish searches.
  • Attributes: halal, vegetarian options, outdoor seating, wheelchair access, delivery. These filters matter to diners.
  • Photos: real photos of your dishes, dining room and shopfront, added regularly.
  • Booking and ordering links: make it one tap to book a table or order.

Step 2: Build a Steady Flow of Google Reviews

Reviews affect both your ranking and whether people choose you. When two Harrow restaurants look similar on the map, the one with more recent, positive reviews usually gets the click.

  • Ask every happy guest, at the right moment: when the bill arrives or when they compliment the food.
  • Make it easy with a QR code on the table, the bill or the takeaway bag.
  • Reply to every review, good and bad, politely and quickly.
  • Never buy reviews or offer discounts in exchange for them. It breaks Google’s rules and can get reviews removed or your profile restricted.

That last point is real. One of our Harrow clients, Kabul Korner, had a Google review restriction that we resolved through Google’s official support channel, while growing calls by 42.3% year on year. Keep your review process clean and you never have to deal with that. Our guide on how to get more Google reviews for your restaurant has scripts and ideas you can use tomorrow.

Step 3: Make Your Website Work for Local Search

Your website supports your Google profile and ranks in its own right. For a Harrow restaurant, the basics are:

  • A real menu page, not just a PDF. Google can read text on a page far better than a scanned PDF, and diners on phones can too.
  • Your name, address and phone number on every page, usually in the footer, matching your Google profile exactly.
  • Location in the right places: your page titles and main headings should say what you are and where, for example “Afghan Restaurant in Harrow”.
  • Fast on mobile: most restaurant searches happen on phones. A slow site sends people back to Google.
  • Restaurant schema: structured data that tells Google your cuisine, opening hours, menu and price range.

Our restaurant on-page SEO guide covers each of these in detail. If your site is holding you back, a proper restaurant website may be the fastest fix.

Step 4: Keep Your Details the Same Everywhere

Google checks your restaurant’s details across the web. If your name, address or phone number is different on Tripadvisor, Apple Maps or a delivery app, Google is less sure which is right, and less likely to show you.

List every place your restaurant appears: Google, Apple Maps, Bing Places, Tripadvisor, Yell, Facebook, Instagram, and delivery platforms such as Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Just Eat. Make the name, address, phone number and hours identical on all of them. If you’ve moved, changed your number or rebranded, this step matters even more.

Step 5: Target the Searches Harrow Diners Actually Make

Harrow has one of the most varied food scenes in London, and people search that way. They rarely type “restaurant”. They type what they want and where:

  • cuisine plus area: “South Indian restaurant Harrow”, “Turkish grill Wealdstone”
  • dish plus area: “biryani Harrow”, “pizza delivery South Harrow”
  • occasion: “birthday dinner Harrow”, “brunch near Harrow on the Hill”
  • needs: “halal restaurant Harrow”, “vegan cafe Harrow”

Use these phrases naturally on your menu, your About page and in your Google posts. Look at the “search terms” in your Google Business Profile performance report to see what people already use to find you. If you serve customers across nearby areas such as Stanmore, Kenton or Pinner, mention them where it’s genuinely true. Don’t stuff area names into every sentence.

Step 6: Track the Numbers That Show Real Diners

Rankings are only useful if they bring people through the door. Each month, check the calls, direction requests, website clicks and bookings from your Google Business Profile, plus booking clicks from your website. Our guide to restaurant marketing KPIs explains which numbers matter and which to ignore.

How Long Does Local SEO Take in Harrow?

Most restaurants see first movement within 8 to 12 weeks. Stronger, lasting results usually build over 3 to 6 months. Fixing your Google Business Profile can make a difference within weeks, while reviews and website improvements take longer to add up. Competition matters too: a restaurant on a busy stretch of Station Road is up against more rivals than one in a quieter neighbourhood.

Should You Do It Yourself or Get Help?

You can do most of this yourself if you have a few hours a week and the patience to keep at it. Start with Steps 1 and 2. They make the biggest difference for the least effort.
